The gear ratios vary depending on the size and type of gearbox. In this category, we offer worm gearboxes, also known as lateral gearboxes. They are the most widely used gearbox type, primarily due to their low price, high reliability, and long service life. We offer 10 basic sizes of these gearboxes, from the smallest WGM 025 to the largest WGM 150. Worm Gears, Electric Gearboxes
Worm gears in large quantities in stock. A worm gear (or worm drive) is a special gearing arrangement in which a worm shaft (thread) meshes with a gear similar to a spur gear. By adjusting the gear, the user can control the speed while transmitting higher torque. This mechanism is found in household appliances and heavy machinery; the simplest form is the tuning mechanism of an acoustic guitar.

Without a groove – this is a straight worm without a groove machined around its circumference. The only point of movement is the one that touches the teeth, which means this particular type of worm gear is subject to high wear under load.
Unicorn – Concave helical teeth are wrapped around the worm gear, ensuring line contact, which means higher unit loads with less excessive wear.
Double Throat – Commonly called an hourglass cone, this type has concave teeth on both the worm and the gear itself. This increase in contact area allows for higher unit loads with less wear.

Tuning Instruments – Most guitars, basses, banjos, and other stringed instruments use a worm gear for tuning. The main reason is the reduction in gear force combined with the locking capability that maintains the required string tension. This type of worm gear differs from most others in that it can be rotated up and down, whereas most worm gears can only be rotated in one direction.
Elevators – Worm gears are commonly found in conventional elevator machinery due to their compact size and irreversible nature. Since the gear/load cannot transmit motion back through the worm/hoist, this type of gear can act as a secondary braking system. This prevents the load from dropping and allows the load’s speed to be easily regulated.
Torsen Differentials – Large trucks or off-road vehicles like the Hummer often need to control different wheels depending on the vehicle’s power. For example, when cornering, the wheels must rotate at different speeds because the inside wheels travel a shorter distance. The vehicle’s Torsen differential handles this motion by combining worm gears that separate the power from each individual wheel.
Doors and Conveyor Belts – Typical worm gear drives can only rotate in one direction, meaning conveyor belts and safety gates are locked when not in use and do not reverse. Automatic safety gates often have two worm gear drives, one for opening and one for closing. This means the gate is locked in any direction and cannot be tampered with in any way.
